Join us in commemorating the 5th anniversary of the 1948 Nationality Act with a captivating conversation between Vanley Burke and Diane Louise Jordan, broadcaster and founder of The Making of Black Britain project.
Vanley Burke's powerful photographs and art encapsulate the diverse landscapes, cultures, and remarkable stories of survival within the wider African-Caribbean community.
The Making of Black Britain is a transformative storytelling endeavour, dedicated to documenting and preserving life experiences for present and future generations. Serving as a dynamic “living archive”, it holds particular significance for communities whose history has been fragmented or lost.
Vanley Burke proudly serves as the official photographer of this project, alongside Diane Louise Jordan. Together, they have traversed the length and breadth of Britain, capturing the portraits of The Making of Black Britain storytellers - individuals from the Windrush generation to the present day, representing every colour, creed, class, and generation. Their mission is to commemorate this pivotal moment in history, explore the multifaceted dimensions of British identity, and illuminate the profound concept of belonging.
The 1948 Nationality Act stands as a transformative milestone in British history, marking the transition from the Empire to a deeper understanding of how we shape our lives today.
